Introduction
Custom Patterns are predefined rules determining what information would be selected on a document. These patterns act as search criteria to target specific information a user may want to redact. Custom Patterns are built using a combination or pattern of words using Text, and Regular Expressions which use a sequence of characters to specify a rule or pattern. VIDIZMO gives you the ability to create custom patterns of your own. You can make rules for searching or redaction that match your preferences.
Prerequisites
- You need to have a Manager+ user role.
- Have Redaction as part of your VIDIZMO package.
Creating Custom Patterns in Portal Settings
You can create Custom Patterns from the Portal Settings to use in document redaction across your portal. It is a convenient way to create or edit Patterns you use often. You can even preemptively create Custom Patterns for information that you see yourself redacting in the future.
To create Custom Patterns via Portal Settings:
1. Open the Action Menu from the button on the top-left.
2. Go to Portal Settings under the Admin tab.
3. In Portal Settings, click Library.
4. Select Custom Patterns to add or edit patterns.
5. You can create Custom Patterns using Text and Regular Expression. Select the Text tab to view all Text patterns.
6. Use the Add New button to create a custom Text pattern.
7. On the Add Text Pattern window, write the name of your rule or pattern in the Name Section.
8. The Text area will contain the word or the pattern of words to redact if this rule or custom pattern is selected.
9. Click the Add button to save this rule.
10. The new Custom Pattern will show up in the Text patterns.
Creating a Regular Expression Pattern
Like Text Patterns, you can create Custom Patterns using regular expressions to target specific information in your documents for redaction. Click on the Add New button, located on the Regular Expression tab of the Custom Pattern screen.
- On the Add Regular Expression Pattern window, write the name of your rule or pattern in the Name Section.
- The Regular Expression contains the sequence of characters that determine what information will be redacted by your Regular Expression rule.
- Use the Validate button to check if the Regular Expression is logical or valid.
- Click the Add button to save this rule.
Your Regular Expression Custom Pattern shows up with the rest of the patterns.
Note: You'll notice some custom patterns with the Global tag. These patterns are part of your Portal package and can't be edited or deleted.
Furthermore, it is possible to both edit and delete custom patterns that you have personally created. This can be accomplished by utilizing the respective icons located adjacent to these patterns.
Creating Custom Patterns from Studio Space
If you have a document undergoing redaction inside the Studio Space, you can create new Custom Patterns from that instance.
- Select Pattern from the overflow menu next to the search bar.
3. The Add Pattern window allows you to create, edit, or delete new patterns from Studio Space.
4. Select Text to view patterns created using a text pattern. The same applies to Regular Expressions.
5. Click the Add New button to add a new pattern. If Text is selected, the new custom pattern will be a Text pattern. For a Regular Expression Custom Pattern, select Regular Expression first.
6. The new Custom Patterns you have created will appear in the Select Pattern drop-down menu.
By providing the ability to target information with pinpoint accuracy, Custom Patterns are a great asset to have for document redaction. To learn about the document redaction procedure, visit How to perform document redaction in VIDIZMO.
