Introduction

Watch Folders are a feature of VIDIZMO’s Desktop Application that offers a convenient way to upload and ingest content. Users can dedicate a folder on their computer to utilize this feature to publish content on their portal. Whenever compatible files are added to the folder, they will be automatically detected, processed, and published per the settings of your portal.

Watch Folders are only available to users who are part of VIDIZMO’s Premium plan. In addition, a Watch Folder can only be created and configured via VIDIZMO’s Desktop Application.

Concept

In the case of Watch Folders, the act of "Watching" is a continuous process. The desktop application monitors (or “watches”) a folder for the content inside. It then selects compatible content, processes it, and publishes it on your configured Portal.

You designate a folder on your computer as a dedicated folder that contains the files to be published. The dedicated folder is linked to the Watch Folder configuration on your Desktop Application. Compatible files inside the folder automatically undergo processing, and then they are published to your Portal. You can add more files to the folder, and they will go through the same procedure. Any non-compatible files inside remain unaffected and undetected by the Desktop Application.

Removing or deleting files from the linked folder will mark the Deletion Status of those files with a red tick on the Desktop Application. However, removing these files from the folder does not affect the ones published on your portal. Files ingested using Watch Folders utilize the Default Publish Settings of your Portal.

Advantages of Watch Folders

Watch Folders allow you to ingest content conveniently. The seamless connectivity and synergy between your computer and your configured Portal yield various advantages.

Narrowing Down Multiple Steps to One

Once your Watch Folder is configured, you can easily publish one or multiple files in a single move. All you have to do is transfer your desired files to the folder linked to your Desktop Application. You no longer have to go through a series of steps just to get the desired content ready for consumption by your audience.

Advanced Monitoring

Aside from the ability to quickly ingest content, VIDIZMO's Desktop Application also lets you monitor the status of your files inside your folder. You can sort files with their name, size, or deletion status using menu items. There are even filters for you to use if you want to query for specific files.

Platform Flexibility

Another advantage of having a Watch Folder configured is the ability to publish content from multiple locations. You can configure a Watch Folder on other computers as long as they have the VIDIZMO Desktop Application installed with your Portal configured. Any content ingested using the Watch Folders on these computers ends up on your Portal.

Effective Utilization of Time and Resources

Uploading via Watch folders gives you the freedom and time to divert your attention to other activities while the files are being ingested. For instance, you can leave the files in the background while they are processed and focus on priority tasks.
