Overview
VIDIZMO lets you add chapters to your audio and video files, enhancing the user learning experience and helping your audience find relevant information quickly and conveniently. It also helps segment or break down long-form content into smaller and more manageable chunks, making it easy for your audience to digest the information. Chapters also enhance the searchability of information in your files on the Portal, making it easier for users to search and retrieve specific information.

Note: In DEMS, 'Chapters' are called 'Topics.' They function the same way as Chapters, the only difference being the name. This article explains these functionalities using an EVCM Portal, so the terms 'Chaptering' or 'Chapters' are used here.
Manual Chaptering
One way to add chapters manually is to go to your Media or Evidence settings and provide the timestamps and titles for the chapters in the 'Chapter' section. Note that the chapter section is only available for audio and video files.
Prerequisites
- Ensure you have the required permissions to manually edit Media or Evidence Settings to add or modify chapters.
Steps for Manual Chaptering
- Click the Add Media button.
- Select ‘Upload Media’ to upload the audio or video for which you want to add chapters.
3. To add chapters for Media already present on your Portal, select ‘Settings’ from its overflow menu to go into its Media Settings. VIDIZMO also allows you to edit the basic settings of Media during upload.
4. In the Basic Settings tab, go to the ‘Chapters’ section.
5. To create the first chapter, provide the start-time timestamp and title. The format can be either in the M:SS (Minutes:Seconds), MM:SS (Minutes:Seconds), or in the HH:MM:SS (Hours:Minutes:Seconds) format. After providing the start-time timestamp, leave a space and provide the chapter's title. The chapter titles can be written in any language you want and are shown during the playback. Here are the following ways a chapter can be created:
- 1:10 First Chapter (if you are using the M:SS format)
- 01:10 First Chapter (if you are using the MM:SS format)
- 00:01:10 First Chapter (if you are using the HH:MM:SS format)
6. Add the Start time timestamp and the title for the next chapter after switching to the next line by pressing the Enter key. Do this consecutively for all the chapters you create.
Note: You must have at least 2 chapters for your content, and there should be a time difference of at least 10 seconds between each chapter.
7. Click ‘Save’ or ‘Save and Close’ to save your created chapters.
8. The chapters you've created for your content are displayed in the 'Chapters' tab on its playback page.
Chapter Interactivity
You can perform several activities on the chapters you've created for your content via its playback page.
- The orange marks on the player indicate the start of each chapter.
- The player will also show the title of the chapter that is currently playing.
- You can navigate to the start of a chapter in the video by clicking the thumbnails in the Chapters tab.
- When a chapter is selected, you can perform two functions on it. First, is the loop button lets you play the selected chapter on repeat. It will only repeat the section of the video corresponding to that chapter. To exit loop mode, click the button again or select a part of the seek bar outside the looped chapter.
- The share button creates a link to the content and copies the link to your clipboard. When you paste the link, the content will begin playing from the instance of the start or the start time of the chapter you have selected. The content shared this way is only accessible to those with permission via the Access and Sharing settings.
6. You can use the Portal's search function to display chapters and their corresponding content if the search keywords match the words in the chapter titles.
7. Use the arrow button to display the transcriptions and chapters in where these keywords are present. Clicking a chapter will redirect you to the content's playback page, where it will begin playing from the selected chapter's start time.
Chapters can also be manually created using VIDIZMO’s Studio Space, which offers additional functionalities to enhance the process. For more information, visit How to Add Chapters using Studio Space.
